Chain Gang leather jewelry by Freetime.

As I think more and more about my path as a graphic designer (& my yoga instructing back up plan), I keep narrowing down my interests. I started back at my internship in SF last week feeling really excited about graphic design again (the last few quarters of school have really worn me out). But working again and being in the design world has been really energizing. I have officially decided my ultimate goal would be to design for a shelter magazine. It would merge my two passions of print design and interior decor. It feels so lovely to have a goal in sight! So I'm going to begin blogging more frequently. I neglect my blog when I get overwhelmed..only to remember how important it is for me to do this. Having a design blog keeps me interested in things I love. It motivates me to explore and keeps my life and the things I love in perspective. So with that said...I'll be blogging much more again! And of course I have something to show you! I love love love these pillows my Charlene Mullen! And please, you must check out her hand stitched cat pillows!

I am itching to do some creative things now that the stress of school projects is out of the way. I have been sketching jewelry lately and the feeling of doing something artistic other than graphic design has been so liberating. I have been so inspired by the jewelry artists whose blogs I follow. Odette in particular is such a talent. I would love to learn how to work with metal! But, I am limited by time and money on the kinds of jewelry I can make right now. I have to be creative with the resources available to me. Luckily, my parents both have wonderful studios where I can work. My mom has a pottery studio where I'm going to explore making jewelry out of clay and fabric. I am going to my dad's shop tomorrow to make lots of pretty pieces out of wood! I am so ready to get away from the computer screen and play with big table saws, dremels, and sanding tools. Ready to get messy! My boyfriend has been busy with his senior projects for mechanical engineering. I went to his place to drill some holes in aluminum for him. Exciting, right? But seriously, it was so much fun for me to do something like that and take a break from design. It just felt good.

By the way, congrats to Andy on finishing the grueling 100k mtb race at Mohican today! So proud!

Let's move to the mountains. What a nice thought.

Even though this hasn't been the most demanding quarter of work at DAAP, it has certainly proved to be one of the most stressful due to a culmination of stresses. But, two projects down, one more project and a final to go. Almost there then hello Summer in SF with Andy, good friends, and family. Meanwhile, admiring EVERYTHING on Scout & Catalogue. Add those scarves and clutches to my wardrobe of black shirts, leggings, and jeans and I will feel it is complete.
